Queen's Pride: Sydenham United Church Movie Screening SYDENHAM UNITED CHURCH MOVIE SCREENING / 7-9pm / Dunning 10 (with discussion to follow) For the Bible Tells Me So – is a deeply moving and provocative documentary that follows the reactions of five American families as their child comes out as lesbian or gay. While the families are all devout Christians, their reactions vary widely – as do their interpretations of the scripture and what the Bible has to say about sexuality and family. This film is for anyone committed to respecting and nurturing the spirituality as well as sexuality of those in LGBTT communities, anyone struggling with the Church’s stands on homosexuality, and anyone ready to confront bigotry and injustice perpetuated in the name of Christianity. Hosted by Sydenham Street United Church, Kingston, an Affirming Congregation that just celebrated its 10th anniversary of intentionally welcoming LGBTT folk into every aspect of congregational life and ministry. |

Video: Killing Us Softly 3 Jean Kilbourne continues her groundbreaking analysis of advertising's depiction of women in this most recent update of her pioneering Killing Us Softly series. In fascinating detail, Kilbourne decodes an array of print and television advertisements to reveal a pattern of disturbing and destructive gender stereotypes. Her analysis challenges us to consider the relationship between advertising and broader issues of culture, identity, sexism, and gender violence. (Approx. One hour). This video showing is part of a series of Noon Hour events at the Ban Righ Centre this winter. When: Tuesday March 23rd, 12 noon - 1pm Where: Ban Righ Centre, 32 Bader Lane, Kingston |
