HARS Halloween Dance, Ride? (no replies)

My girlfriend and I would love to go to the HARS dance on Halloween. We have no trouble getting there, but getting home may be an issue. We live on the edge of Amherstview, not far past Collins Bay. If anyone is going there, or at least close to the Gardiners centre (we could get a taxi from there), we'd really appreciate it and could chip in for some gas!

Kingston Gospel Temple billboard (1 reply)

initial message minus the name of the author:

>>> Lest we get complacent and toy with the idea of living our queer
>>> lives in peace . . the Kingston Gospel Temple (across from Rona on
>>> Princess) has a special sign up for Pride: "God Loves Gays but Hates
>>> Pride."
-----------------------------------------------

summary of points of this long ass exchange, made so far...plus a bit. feel free to add/discount/correct/whatever:

- suspicions that the sign is a veiled message that's really saying "love the sinner, hate the sin"
- a phone call was made to the gospel temple, to find out what they meant by pride. it seems a play on words at this point. response from gospel temple is to offer the sermon that the message was based on. further messages to the gospel temple, inquiring about "love the sinner hate the sin" hasn't yet been returned
- a letter has been drafted, to express concern at the offensiveness of the sign. author would appreciate feedback by monday from interested parties
- people feel churches are the oppressive ones, not the oppressed
- people feel dialogue with churches won't accomplish anything, and really, isn't the responsibility of the queer community at large
- some feel there is no reason to carry out dialogue with churches anyways, as that's a form of seeking acceptance from those that wouldn't think twice about lobbying against queer rights
- others feel, a tolerant future can be had from promoting mutual understanding
- people feel tone of postings aren't respectful of those following the Christian faith
- a family type bbq was suggested as a sort of outreach event between the queer community and the religious. the idea hasn't caught traction yet
