I definitely need bike storage... got three 2-wheelers of my own... but as long as there's enough room either in my bedroom or near the entranceway/in the common area to put bike hooks in the wall I'm happy.

But first I'd like to know more about you. Want to drop me an email, and tell me about yourself and what kind of roommate you are?
New grad student seeks home!

We are a boy and a cat, seeking a safe place to call home in Kingston in September. I (the boy) am set to begin my MA in Gender Studies at Queen’s; she, the cat, has patiently agreed to move with me yet again.

WHAT WE WANT: Ideally I would like to find an affordable bachelor or one-bedroom. I would also consider roommates, if the situation sounded good. I prefer not to live in areas densely populated by large packs of undergrads... unless they’re all awesome and have rad politics.

Necessities include: a space that is queer- and trans-friendly; a space that is cat-friendly; sufficient indoor room to store my bicycles.

Things that make me happy include: on-site laundry; balconies, yards or other outdoor spaces; gas-burning stoves; bathtubs; above-ground settings; respectful landlords.

ABOUT THE BOY: I am a 25-yo white queer transboy with an anti-oppressive feminist politic. I am a self-reflexive writer, filmmaker and academic. I am an amateur competitive boxer currently fighting out of the Newsgirls gym in Toronto; but don’t worry, I won’t hang a heavy bag from the ceiling or keep you up at night with the tappity-tap of my jump rope. I am a cyclist who loves his bikes dearly and is always on-board for two-wheeled adventures.

I’m a meat-eater and a good cook. I’m also a west-coaster and a country kid… not in the horses-and-pigs sense, but in the venison-and-backwoods sense. This has endowed me with a set of random skills and attributes. For instance: I have no fear of spiders, wasps, rodents or snakes. I am clumsy on stairs, but sure-footed on rocks, roots, logs and mountainsides. I can build you a fire and, with relative accuracy, tell you if that rustling in the bushes is a rodent, a reptile, a bird, or a peeping tom. Useful, I know.

All of the following words describe me: loving, friendly, stubborn, moody, playful, honest, creative, shy, strange, awkward, pessimistic, bold, supportive, aloof, loyal, insensitive, oversensitive, and contradictory.

ABOUT THE CAT: Jezebel is a tiny gray tabby with a heart three times the size of her body. Looking at her paws, you’d swear she was wearing cute white mittens and saucy knee-high boots. She loses her mind over queer masculinities, sometimes even more than her faggoty human companion (me) does.

She is a rescue who spent her earliest years in a less-than-ideal situation. Though she is loving and precious, she has residual issues such as one might expect from a brave little survivor. She and I share an understanding, and love one another despite our imperfections. If you let her, she’ll love you too.

-----------------------

If you know of a potential good fit for Jezebel and I, please email me: aneuman at fire-storm dot net. Thanks!

Kingston ahoy!

Hello queer Kingston.

I will be moving to Kingston at the end of August / beginning of September to start my master's in Gender Studies at Queen's. Looking around this forum, I see things are a little slow. But I'm hoping that there are at least some people reading, if not posting, who can potentially point me in the right direction on a couple of things... like a good place to live, queer- and trans- (and combat sport-, aha) friendly health services, and perhaps other helpful info as well. I will post more on these topics later.

A few words about me: I'm a 25-yo genderqueer transboy, originally from BC and currently living in Toronto. I am also an amateur boxer, a brunch cook, an anti-racist feminist, a writer, a filmmaker, an avid cyclist, a work-a-holic and a night owl.

I'm looking forward to Kingston and Queen's in the fall.
